How we match you to the right law firm
When you submit an enquiry, our system selects the firms most likely to help — not the ones that paid the most. Here's exactly what goes into that decision.

What goes into a match
Six signals are weighted and combined. Practice area and location are mandatory filters — if a firm doesn't match on these, it's excluded regardless of other scores.
Location relevance
We prioritise firms with offices near you. Firms that offer nationwide or remote consultations are also surfaced where relevant.
Responsiveness
Firms that reply to enquiries quickly and accept a higher share of leads are ranked above firms with slow or low reply rates. This rewards firms that actively help clients.
Service flags
Need legal aid? Fixed-fee consultation? We filter on these first if you specify them — only firms that offer these services are included in your match.
Profile completeness
Firms with complete profiles — practice areas listed, contact details verified, logo uploaded — score higher. Incomplete profiles make it harder to assess fit.
Trust signals
Network membership (NZ Law, LawLink, etc.), verified office address, Google reviews, and social presence all contribute to a trust score. Firms cannot pay to boost it.
Firms cannot buy a better match
Commercial plans let firms manage leads and access analytics — but they do not change their position in your match results. A free-plan firm that is the best fit for your situation will be matched over a Premium+ firm that is not.
The matching score updates daily. Firms improve their ranking by responding faster, completing their profile, and building their Google review base — not by spending more.

Questions answered
Do firms pay to appear in my match?
No. Paid plans unlock features like lead routing and premium placement in results, but the core match is determined by the signals above — not by what a firm pays us.
How many firms will be matched to my enquiry?
Typically 1–3 firms. We contact the best-fit firms on your behalf rather than sending your details to everyone. This keeps the process personal and reduces spam.
What if no firm matches my situation?
If no firm closely fits your criteria, we'll let you know. We also link to Citizens Advice Bureau and other free legal resources for situations where a private firm isn't the right fit.
How quickly do matched firms respond?
Most firms respond within one business day. Responsiveness is a direct input into matching — firms that reply slowly rank lower over time.
Can I request a specific firm?
You can browse firm profiles directly and contact any firm from their profile page. The matching flow is for people who want a recommendation rather than browsing manually.
