Practice area fit
We first filter by the area of law you need — immigration, family, employment, property, criminal, and more — then narrow further by sub-specialty where declared by the firm.
When you submit an enquiry, our system selects the firms most likely to help — not the ones that paid the most. Here's exactly what goes into that decision.
Your enquiry inputs
Best-fit firms contacted on your behalf
Typically 1–3 firms. No bulk email blasts.
Six signals are weighted and combined. Practice area and location are mandatory filters — if a firm doesn't match on these, it's excluded regardless of other scores.
We first filter by the area of law you need — immigration, family, employment, property, criminal, and more — then narrow further by sub-specialty where declared by the firm.
We prioritise firms with offices near you. Firms that offer nationwide or remote consultations are also surfaced where relevant.
Firms that reply to enquiries quickly and accept a higher share of leads are ranked above firms with slow or low reply rates. This rewards firms that actively help clients.
Need legal aid? Fixed-fee consultation? We filter on these first if you specify them — only firms that offer these services are included in your match.
Firms with complete profiles — practice areas listed, contact details verified, logo uploaded — score higher. Incomplete profiles make it harder to assess fit.
Network membership (NZ Law, LawLink, etc.), verified office address, Google reviews, and social presence all contribute to a trust score. Firms cannot pay to boost it.
Commercial plans let firms manage leads and access analytics — but they do not change their position in your match results. A free-plan firm that is the best fit for your situation will be matched over a Premium+ firm that is not.
The matching score updates daily. Firms improve their ranking by responding faster, completing their profile, and building their Google review base — not by spending more.
